heart

By Kim Buskala

It seems most every time I am brought to a writing prompt a song follows.

The subject is love. The first song that comes to mind is Tina Turners “What’s Love Got To Do With It”.

What does love have to do with it?

I listen and listen again; convinced I can come to some conclusion from the words being sung:

It’s physical

Only logical

Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

What’s love but a sweet old fashioned notion

I have come to believe love is an action of the heart, a feeling, a way of being. A pulsating sensation of pure uplifting, physical joy. It’s not easy being in love, feeling pain—rejected at times. Love involves much dedication, caring to the point of no return; and then it happens, we become broken, heart broken.

So why love? Why care knowing eventually our heart will be ripped open?

It’s fool proof, guaranteed to happen. We live, they die, we are ostracized, put in our place, rejected and willing to do it all again. Why? Because we see the beauty in love and the magic that can happen when we fall, when we are willing to take the chance. Life grows in love. I love the idea of a sweet, old fashion notion.

How perfect is that? Love just is, as long as we are open to receive and willing to give, that simple. It’s natural, when it is unconditional, coming from the heart and allowed to flourish. Nature proves that over and over again in all her beauty. I know love has a lot to do with it, all of it. Just think how much better off this world would be if love came first. To have and to hold, until death do we part. Love isn’t something we own, love is a reciprocated action of knowing, being, caring, receiving and it feels so good. Tina knows, I see the way music moves through her, bringing her to a new expression of love, even if this song has nothing to do with it.

For me this song was brought to my attention for the pure notion of thought: what does love have to do with it? Maybe that’s why the record producers insisted she sing this song—to bring love to the forefront. It got me thinking of love. When we have parted, love will carry us on—in song.

This also allowed her the time to be available for her aging parents. She has a passion for nature and everything art. Her love for music and the desire to move her body to the rhythms brought her to JourneyDance, where she is a certified facilitator.

Through dance her eyes where opened to the beauty within, which revealed her ability to write and draw. Poetry flooded to her one early morning, shortly after the death or her mother and hasn’t stopped. Writing has been an outlet for self expression and gives her the confidence to share with others in hopes that they, too, can find their voice through creativity. She is a contributor to Journey of the Heart poetry and a featured writer in Where Journeys Meet. Kim is on a road to self discovery, willing to face the challenges life has to offer, with ease and grace, as best she can. The love to connect with others near and far is always a driving force. To travel the seven seas from coast to coast is a dream within reach. Life is worth living even if it is just in the mind’s eye. The imagination holds magic, which is the key, to opening many doors.
