The Faces of Meditation: Che

I just finished university for counseling and I realize there is only so far I can go in the work I do with people.

Twelve years ago I sobered up and cleaned up.

Up to that point I was finding fulfillment through substances, and then the Twelve Steps guided me to meditation, which has now become the center of fulfillment and healing for me. It sustains me.

I just finished university for counseling and I realize there is only so far I can go in the work I do with people. Really, for sustaining change and holistic health, the qualities of meditation need to be brought forth. In the work I do, I aim to come from a place of intuition and grounding.

The Corpse Pose has become this huge gift for me as a practice to end all arguments in my mind. I can watch the capacity for compassionate understanding inside myself grow. A thought will come that creates pain and emotion, and I can sit with it and refine the emotion to a workable feeling.

I am learning to work with emotions where they don’t become the controlling force they have been in the past.

The Tattooed Buddha

The Tattooed Buddha was founded by Buddhist author Ty Phillips and Dana Gornall. What started out as a showcase for Ty's writing, quickly turned into collaboration with creative writer, Dana Gornall and the home for sharing the voices of friends and colleagues in the writing community. The Tattooed Buddha strives to be a noncompetitive, open space for the author’s authentic voice. So while not necessarily Buddhist, we are offering a dialogue that is aware and awake to the reality of our present day to day, tackling issues of community, environment, and compassionate living.
