path woman

The universe is not conspiring against us and our problems are not here to wreck us.

When untidy things show up in our space, it is a not so gentle reminder that something is awry, something needs to change and change is good. The more often we give a little nod (say, “yes”) to diversity, the easier it is to say, “no” I am not going to let the challenge ruin me.

And all the world is a stage.

Every thought, every word and every time we make a move it is recorded into the universal memory bank—and there are no withdraws in this institution.

We create this web of entanglement and whether you believe it or not, the effects are felt far and wide. There are so many threads—so many broken, torn and tattered threads—yet so many strings attached we feel like we are in perpetual obligation; it has to stop.

“Make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back. Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can’t build on it; it’s only good for wallowing in.”

― Katherine Mansfield

The obligatory bullshit that is held in esteem, laced with lies is like a wolf in sheepskin, waits for our weakness to fall and then we say, “I was attacked, sucked in and taken away.”  We say, “I am a victim of circumstance,” but what we don’t say is: It was happenstance or we hold any accountability. And as the timid, heavily-laden pity gains momentum, it spirals out of control and we only get smaller.

That is the great trickster. It seems to let us off the hook when we have work to do. It numbs our purpose and all of a sudden a bleak reality sets in dancing in our head (like it is so natural to be duped). Again I call bullshit on that theory because we all came here to take care of business. It might not be today, right this second but why be a disaster when we can be full of potential? It is universal chaos at its finest.

The gig is clear. Life happens. We must hang in the eye of the storm, get a little wet, wait it out and move on. If you say you can’t, I say that’s a shame. But it is a choice—just one of many options to consider.

You see, all we have to do is ask and we will receive. But the moment we ask, there will consequences. The subtle gestures of a doubting inquiry may hold the key to much of the mystery in our mind. We have the power, the strength and the knowing when we want it, but most of the time we are too insecure and we don’t trust our God-given intuition. Then we seek validation. We all long for the nod of the head we could give ourselves, if only would give “our self” the chance.

Oh the joys of the confusion; it reeks havoc on our heart.

So here, right now, we must take a chance. Send out the insidious captions of “should,” “what if” (and the host of other toxicity that junks up our head). Send it out the door and let that crap go. What do have to lose?

“The mistakes I’ve made are dead to me. But I can’t take back the things I never did.”

― Jonathan Safran Foer

The way I see it, it is now or never, and never is a long, long time. Tomorrow never gets here, so swallowing our fears, our pride and the laziness, is the only way to get past what keeps us tied to the unknown. We can’t know unless we know, and experiencing chance is our way of knowing, growing and the ultimate path to heart-felt intellectual freedom.

When we take a chance, no one can take that chance away from us.
